homesteading

Boy did this week fly by. Between the ridiculously freezing temperatures, getting adjusted to the new puppy, and a busy week at work, things just got away from me a bit. It was one of those weeks that just wouldn't slow down, yet at the same time it felt like the weekend would never get here. You know what I mean? Well, I am just so happy that it's Friday, and I am sooo happy that it's a three-day weekend too.

Earlier this week, I mentioned that I had an exciting collaboration to tell you about. Well, here it is. Last week, the amazing Molly invited me to participate in a new collaborative blog that she's initiated called, homesteading. As the name might suggest, this blog is focused on the little and big ways that we can try to live more intentionally and mindfully. Besides Molly and myself, Chris and Angie (some friends of Molly's) are contributing as well. Molly intentionally kept this as a Minnesota-focused group so that we can share local resources and have some in-person get-togethers as well as maintaining our online conversations, but I think a lot of the ideas and resources will be applicable to non-Minnesotans as well.

So far, we've had posts on everything from how to build a root cellar in your basement to knitting washcloths to baking bread. I'm really excited to participate in this project and am definitely looking forward to sharing some of my knowledge and skills, but mostly to learning from these other ladies (and from you all!). We've also created a flickr group, so you all can share some of your homesteading ideas and creations as well as a booklist on goodreads that we'll be adding to periodically. We'd love to have as many of you join in on this venture as possible. So be sure to come on over and check us out at homesteading.

  1. Hey, Julia! I am so glad that you are doing this! I will be checking in every now and then for good ideas.
I've been wanting to tell you that I made your double chocolate cookies recipe. And it was a big hit! They are my absolute favorites so far. And husband and little girl devoured them too. I have to show you pictures later.

  3. I love reading other bogs about homesteading. We live in IL during the week & in Wisconsin most weekends in a barn we are turning into a home. Amish owned it so there was no electric or indoor plumbing. It has been an adventure!
Check out my blog if you get a chance.

  5. I love the idea. It's were I was 10 years ago and where I want to bring my family back to. Actually I'm still were I was 10 years ago but with less spare time and less spare change. I've let things stand in my way and haven't progressed. Here's to a new year!
