adventures in photography

As you all know, I've gotten much more interested in photography over the last couple of years. Luckily, my friends have started to catch on to this little hobby of mine. Earlier this summer, one of my best friends' got married. Knowing how much I love taking photos, a few weeks before the wedding she nonchalantly asked me if I was planning on bringing any cameras. Well, of course I was. I was really flattered that she asked me to take photos at the groom's dinner, which was a lobster bake, the night before the wedding.

Of course I had never done anything like this before, so I immediately began obsessing over what kind of film and cameras I would use. These two ladies had some excellent advice, and I ended up primarily shooting with kodak portra 800. I ended up using my polaroid 360 (peel apart), which Jared spent weeks trying to fix before our trip, and which people always get a kick out of (I only had to answer the question "can you still get film for that?" about four thousand times). I decided to use my canon eos rebel ti, which I hadn't used in years, because with the fast pace of the event, I thought it would be easier to use a camera that I could use on automatic. Also, that one has a flash, and the event was indoors, at night. I loaded my little canonet ql17 gIII with some kodak tmax black and white film, but ended up barely using that. I had also brought my lomo lc-a, but barely used that as well.

It was so much fun to have an excuse to shove my camera in everyone's faces, and get some practice taking photographs of people--something I rarely do, but am trying to do more of. Even though I brought four cameras along, I discovered that it's really very difficult to be using that many different cameras at once. Especially when one of those cameras is a peel apart, which can be a little cumbersome. Luckily I had my trusty sidekick to help me out :). All in all, I had a lot of fun with this project and was really glad that Liz and Tony asked me to do this. Check out my flickr set to see more of the photos I took that weekend.

  1. How fun to take pictures at that party. I would have been terribly nervous to shoot the party, but then again any excuse to photograph a ton is worth it. You did a terrific job. Now I'm off to check it out on flickr.
