a cardigan for truly

a couple of months ago, i knit up this little sweater for my friend melissa's newest little one, a beautiful girl named truly. frankly, i can't think of a more perfect name for the latest addition to one of the most inspiring families i know. if you're not familiar with melissa, you should be. she is one of the kindest, most honest women i know. last year, i mentioned somewhere online that i was madly potting little succulents for our wedding centerpieces and what did she do? well, she went out into her yard, dug up some succulents, and mailed them to me. nevermind the fact that she was somewhere around five months pregnant, with three other little boys running around and she was probably in the middle of madly pickling something. see what i mean?

melissa is one of those (many) people, that give me hope when i think about someday raising children into this crazy, complicated, and often depressing world of ours. she speaks the truth, fights for what's right, teaches her (crazy beautiful and adorable) children to be good people, plus she freaking rents a bouncy house for birthday parties! if you happened to miss her two incredibly moving posts on trayvon martin and how she is navigating raising two black boys in a family with white parents and two white siblings, go check them out right now (here and here). be prepared for tears and goosebumps.

also, she's hilarious. and so, i knit a sweater for her baby girl. truly.

  2. Oh girl. I am much more yelly than you'd imagine.

The sweater is perfect-- colours I would have chosen. The internets, as scary as they can be, are so damn great. They have brought so much good into our lives. Thank you thank you.
