...ethan is four months old.

there have been so many times i've wanted to write here. to share thoughts and moments from my days. to record them here. and yet, that time thing just keeps eluding me. i really want to dedicate a couple of posts to the two wonderful trips we've taken this fall (especially before we embark on our third trip in just a few weeks!). so for now i'm sharing a few moments from our days over the past couple of months. it occurs to me as i chose these photos just how much he has changed since some of them were taken. that top one of him in jared's studio was taken almost two months ago, which feels like eons. that onesie has long since been put in the too-small pile.

i know i sound like a cliche and continue to repeat myself, but my mind is truly blown by this child on a daily (hourly? minute-ly?) basis. he is so wonderful and makes me want explode with happiness and cry and take a nap all at the same time. i continue to not understand how it has already been four months since he was born and yet, how has he not been here all along. sometimes (not always) it seems impossible to remember life before he arrived. it seems like a lifetime ago.

somehow, we are still finding the time for things like sunday morning waffles with fruit compote (or saturday morning pancakes, as it happened to be today), finally harvesting the last of the kale/chard/herbs, a little bit of knitting, falling in love with our new-to-us record player and making our way through the mountain of records that i inherited from my grandfather and parents, and of course that never-ending laundry pile.

i tell you, having a tiny baby is no easy feat for someone as nostalgia-prone as myself. i am constantly battling between missing those very early days and love love loving who he is today. because he is pretty damn awesome.

he is so happy. he actually giggles, which is just about the greatest sound on earth. he loves watching freddie and has started reaching for him and grabbing fist-fulls of his fur while freddie is busy licking his face like there's no tomorrow. he thinks jared's funny noises are hilarious. he can roll from his tummy to his back. he wishes he could shove everything in his mouth and drools nonstop. he does not mind being held and passed around to strangers, which was further proven during my brother's wedding weekend when we barely held him, and he is a true true charmer.

and also, i am happy to say you can find me this month over at habit. joining in on the annual december party there. check it out.
